IPL Hair Removal
IPL (permanent hair removal) does have a few more limitations. Permanent hair removal is safe and effective (as well as FDA approved) for brown and black hair only. The technology works by attacking the pigment in the follicle, using a bright light, in order to destroy or weaken the follicle, which causes it to stop producing a hair.
Unfortunately, permanent hair removal has not evolved to the point of detecting blonde, red, gray or white hair. The device simply can not “see” those colors of hair in order to remove them. Because the technology works by attacking pigment, it is not safe for dark skin tones. The Fitzpatrick scale is used to rate the darkness of the skin. It ranges from 1 (ivory skin that never tans in the sun) to 6 (deep brown, never burns, tans quickly).
IPL is safe and effective for types 1-5. Unlike waxing, where we need the hair long enough to grab, with IPL you must shave prior it your appointment. It’s recommended to shave the day before or day of your appointment. If shaving with a razor is not an option, using a trimmer or clipper with no guard is acceptable, but if using a trimmer you must trim the day of your scheduled appointment, not the day before.

IPL Procedure Maintenance Pricing
After your initial series, move to our Maintenance Phase with significantly reduced rates to keep remaining hair growth at bay. Most clients maintain year-round smoothness with just 3–4 sessions annually.
Please note that facial hair is the only exception to maintenance pricing due to hormonal influences. While IPL significantly reduces dark facial hair, ongoing monthly treatments are recommended to manage regrowth effectively without the need for shaving or waxing.

FAQs
Who can get permanent hair removal using the IPL device?
The ideal candidate will have lightish skin and brown or black hair. IPL is safe for Fitzpatrick types 1-5 and works for brown and black hair only. Unsure of your Fitzpatrick type? A quick google search will give you and excellent indication of your type.
Can you get permanent hair removal while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, you will need to wait until you are not pregnant or nursing in order to schedule permanent hair removal.
How many sessions will I need?
While you will notice a reduction in hair growth after each session, a total of 8-10 sessions will be necessary to achieve maximum results.
Do I have to pay for all my sessions up front?
No! The Vanity Vault keeps pricing affordable and sessions accessible by offering pay as you go permanent hair removal! Most places require purchasing packages in order to get reasonable pricing. At The Vanity Vault we offer the affordable rate, per treatment without requiring you to spend thousands of dollars up front.
When will I notice results?
You will notice a reduction in growth at each session! It takes 2-3 weeks to notice the initial reduction. You will need to shave prior to your appointment but the hair must be in the follicle in order for the machine to see and target the hair. This hair will appear to “grow” for the next 2-3 weeks, but most of it will fall out of the skin and will not return, or will be much thinner and finer if it does return. Each session is designed to kill or weaken the follicle. A weak follicle produces a weak hair, which is thinner and finer in texture.
How often do I need to come in for my sessions?
4 weeks is the minimum time to wait in between treatments. 4-6 weeks is ideal, but 8-10 weeks is fine as well.
Does it hurt?
Like waxing, it’s certainly uncomfortable. My professional opinion is that the pain is on par with waxing, not greater than that.
Can I get permanent hair removal if I have a tan?
No! Sun exposure or spray tans and permanent hair removal do not mix. You will need to avoid both sun exposure and heat for 1 week before and after each treatment. No hot tubs, no sauna, no laying out in the sun. If you live at the pool or beach in the summer months, you will want to wait for the fall/winter to start permanent hair removal treatments.
I’m on medication, can I still get permanent hair removal?
You must first check with your healthcare provider to see if your particular medication is safe for a permanent hair removal. Many medications are perfectly safe for a photofacial but if your medication makes you photosensitive, meaning it’s advised that you stay out of the sun, permanent hair removal is not right for you.
Will I be completely hair free forever?
While everyone is different, most clients will still have very minimal growth after their 8-10 treatments. You will be roughly 90% hair free after all sessions are complete. Generally clients will come in for 2-3 sessions YEARLY to maintain minimal growth. This is what “maintenance” pricing refers to. Factors like hormonal changes, testosterone therapy and pregnancy can all affect hair growth. Once all recommended sessions are complete, you are eligible for maintenance pricing, no matter the reason or cause for regrowth. Rest assured, the hair will never return to full growth. It will never return to 50% growth. The most regrowth I have ever seen, related to hormonal issues is 30%. All clients will have a 70% or better permanent reduction even in the case of pregnancy or testosterone therapy. For many people this is a life changing service. Most clients seek permanent hair removal because they simply can not shave without extreme irritation or razor burn. Thick coarse hair and sensitive skin is a terrible combination for shaving and can make the process next to impossible. The IPL treatments will weaken the follicle and thin the hair to the point that the irritation is eliminated and a last minute trip to the beach or lake won’t matter, because any remaining hair can easily be removed with a razor, without disrupting the skin and causing irritation.
