Body Waxing Services
The Vanity Vault offers 2 different types of hair removal options. Body waxing and permanent removal using IPL technology. Body waxing is very straight forward, it’s not limited by ethnicity or pregnancy. There are some medications which prohibit body waxing, such as Accutane, but in general waxing is a safe and effective means of body hair removal for just about everyone and works on all colors of hair as well as all skin colors.
For body waxing, the hair must be long enough for the wax to grab the hair, so that it can be removed by the follicle. 10 days from the last time you’ve shaved, or an minimum of 1/4”. If the hair is too short, the wax can’t “grab” the hair and remove it.

Waxing FAQs
Does it hurt?
Yes, unfortunately removing hair by the follicle is not a painless process. Fortunately, the more skilled your esthetician the less painful it will be. With well over 20 years experience in waxing, we have it down to a science. Our staff is extremely skilled and we use a variety of high quality waxes that will ensure the process is as painless as possible. Each strip should only hurt for a few seconds. You will not leave in pain, you will not be in pain for hours. If you’re very concerned about the pain, you can absolutely take a couple ibuprofen or acetaminophen 30 minutes prior to our appointment.
Do you offer male Brazilian or Bikini waxing at The Vanity Vault?
No, we do not wax mens intimate areas. We do offer waxing services for men such as back, chest, stomach, arms, under arms and legs and eyebrows.
How long does my hair need to be?
We need a true 1/4” of hair, or a minimum of 10 days from the last time you shaved or trimmed the hair. If the hair isn’t long enough, the wax can not remove it effectively.
How long does it last?
Waxing lasts much longer than shaving because you’re removing the hair by the follicle or root. The hair has to fully reform inside the follicle and grow before it can penetrate the surface of the skin. This process takes at least 2 weeks. That being said, hair grows in 3 stages. Think of each stage as a layer of hair. Once we have removed all three stages, you will get the best and longest lasting results. This generally takes 3 sessions, with NO shaving in between.
Will waxing make my hair come in darker or thicker?
No. Unlike shaving, which stimulates then follicle making it stronger, waxing weakens the follicle, causing it to produce a thinner, finer, lighter hair in time. Waxing regularly actually causes less growth. The hair will come in thinner, finer and lighter which also reduces the pain involved! The thinner the hair, the less hair, the less it hurts!
What is the difference in waxing and sugaring?
There are 2 main differences, but the ultimate process is basically the same. Both procedures are removing the hair by the follicle. The main difference is that with waxing, this process is done with wax, and with sugaring it is done with sugar. The second difference is the application/removal method. While waxing you apply the produce in the direction of the hair growth and remove the strip in the opposite direction of growth, with Sugaring you apply the product opposite the direction and remove it in the same direction of growth. Both processes remove the hair by the follicle, neither is more or less painful. Neither is easier or harder on the skin. The skill level of the esthetician is the only thing that will determine how painful the service is to the client. Both services are equally uncomfortable. The Vanity Vault does not offer sugaring. There is simply no reason to offer or stock 2 different products at the salon. Waxing is our tried and true method.
Can I wax if I have a tan?
Absolutely! Though you should never wax within 24 hours of being in a tanning bed as that will increase the sensitivity of the skin and make the process more uncomfortable than it needs to be. Additionally, you can not get waxed with a sunburn as this can cause trauma to the skin and possibly tear the skin.
Can I go to the gym after my waxing appointment?
While you can go to the gym before your scheduled wax (please be sure to shower after your workout and before your wax) you will need to skip the gym for 24 hours after your wax. Excessive sweating after a waxing appointment can cause breakouts, and no one wants that!
Is waxing safe during pregnancy?
Yes! Waxing is safe during all stages of pregnancy, though skin is more sensitive during pregnancy since your blood volume increases and puts more pressure on the nerve endings. I always recommend that pregnant clients stay on schedule and come every 2-3 weeks in order to reduce the pain as much as possible.
Why is mens pricing higher than women’s?
Simply put, men are hairier than women. The more hair we are removing at any given time, the more time and product necessary. More time plus more product usage equals a higher cost. The same concept applies to women’s services at a hair salon. Women pay significantly more for hair cuts and color services because it takes significantly more time and product to do their hair.
I identify as a woman, do I get woman’s pricing?
While you are free to identify however you wish, and we are certainly LGBTQ friendly at The Vanity Vault, when it comes to hair removal services, you will pay the price of your gender assigned at birth. If there is a penis attached to your body, we do not wax that area and you will be charged for the male pricing for all other body parts. This is not a political matter, it’s a sound and reasonable business decision. You are free to have your hair removal services elsewhere if you don’t agree with our pricing policy.
